Red Rascal is a Hacksaw Gaming slot that went on wide release on 21 May 2026, after an exclusive launch period. The setting is a funfair taken over by a devilish rascal, drawn in a bright cartoon style, and the hook is a pendulum: when the respin feature ends, it decides whether the Rascals on the grid turn into coins or into wilds. The game runs on a 5x5 grid with 19 paylines, carries a maximum win of 15,000x and comes in four RTP versions. This review explains how the respins, the pendulum and the three bonus rounds work, and what the RTP setting means for your money. Figures are as of October 2026.

How it plays

Wins pay on 19 fixed lines from left to right. According to the reported paytable, the flaming 666 and the Eye are the top regular symbols, paying 2.5x to 10x for three to five of a kind, while the card ranks A to 10 pay 0.4x to 1.5x. Five Wilds on a line pay 20x. Line wins are the small, steady part of the game; the large results come from the Rascal symbol.

Rascal Respin Mode, step by step

  1. Trigger. Three or more Rascal symbols land. They lock in place and the respins start.
  2. Respins. Only Rascal and Dead symbols can land during the respins. Each new Rascal locks too, and the respins continue for as long as new Rascals keep arriving.
  3. Colossal Rascals. Rascals that fill a square block, from 2x2 up to 5x5, merge into one Colossal Rascal. A full 5x5 Colossal Rascal pays the 15,000x maximum straight away.
  4. The pendulum. A pendulum swings between Coin and Wild on every respin. Where it stops when the respins end decides what the Rascals become.

Coin Mode. Every Rascal becomes a coin: Bronze (0.2x–4x), Silver (5x–20x) or Gold (25x–500x). Colossal coins carry a minimum value that is multiplied by a multiplier between x2 and x100. The coin values are added up and paid as one total.

Wild Mode. The Rascals become sticky Wilds, Colossal Wilds take a multiplier from the same x2 to x100 range, and the game plays one extra regular spin with those Wilds in place.

Neither mode is reliably better. Coins give you an instant cash total that you can see before it is paid. Wilds give you one spin at line wins, which can be large when multiplied Wilds line up with high symbols and small when they do not. The pendulum, not the player, makes the choice.

The three bonus rounds

All three are triggered by FS scatter symbols, and the number of scatters decides which one you get.

Bonus Trigger Spins What is different Can you buy it?
Ready to Riot 3 FS scatters 8 Rascals land more often; 2 or 3 more scatters add 2 or 4 spins Yes
After Dark 4 FS scatters 10 One or two Rascals that do not start a respin go into a Popcorn Bucket (up to 25) and drop onto the grid on the final spin Yes
Ignite the Night 5 FS scatters (hidden "epic" bonus) 10 At least 4 Rascals on every spin, no respins, and the pendulum switches mode every spin No

The buy menu

Where the casino offers it, Red Rascal has five paid options. The RTP figures are the reported ones.

Option Cost What you get Reported RTP
BonusHunt FeatureSpins 5x the bet per spin The bonus becomes 10 times as likely 96.32%
Fiery FeatureSpins 25x per spin At least 3 Rascals on every spin 96.25%
Frenzied Epic Drop FeatureSpins 100x per spin At least 10 Rascals on every spin 96.28%
Ready to Riot 80x The 3-scatter bonus 96.24%
After Dark 200x The 4-scatter bonus 96.28%

The buy RTPs sit close to the 96.34% default, so buying does not change the long-run return in any meaningful way. What it changes is the variance and how fast you spend: a 200x buy at €1 costs €200 in one click, and a buy never promises to pay back its cost.

Why the RTP setting matters

Hacksaw offers Red Rascal at four RTP settings, and the casino chooses which one it runs. The difference is easy to overlook and large in money terms. Our calculation uses €1 spins over 500 spins, €500 staked in total, with the expected loss worked out as stake × (1 − RTP):

RTP setting Expected loss on €500 staked
96.34% €18.30
94.29% €28.55
92.26% €38.70
86.35% €68.25

These are long-run averages, not predictions for a session: any 500 spins can end well above or well below them. The point is the comparison. The same game at its lowest setting costs, on average, more than three and a half times as much as at its highest. Check the RTP in the game's info screen before you play. Our guide to RTP and volatility explains both terms in more depth.

Volatility in plain terms

Hacksaw rates Red Rascal 4 out of 5 for volatility. In practice, line wins arrive at a modest rate, while the respins, the pendulum and the bonus rounds carry most of the game's return. Expect quiet stretches between features, and remember that a feature can still end with a small result. For a calmer game from the same studio, Le Bandit is rated 3 out of 5. Our guide to slot mechanics covers respins, sticky wilds and feature buys if any of the terms here are new.

Who it suits

Red Rascal suits players who like a feature with a decision point built in: the pendulum adds tension to every respin sequence, and the three bonus rounds each play differently. It also suits players who enjoy Hacksaw's feature-heavy style and are comfortable with high variance.

It is a weaker fit if you want simple line play, or if you are sensitive to cost: the buy menu runs from 5x per spin to 200x per buy, and the lowest RTP setting is unusually low. The game is available at Stake.

How we rated it

We score slots from 0 to 5 as an editorial judgement and explain what moved the score. For Red Rascal:

  • In its favour: a 96.34% default RTP, a 15,000x maximum, a genuinely different respin feature with two outcomes, three distinct bonus rounds, and buy RTPs that stay close to the default.
  • Against it: an 86.35% configuration that some casinos may run, high volatility, and buy prices that can drain a budget quickly.

It sits just below Le Bandit, which plays more steadily and whose lowest RTP version is higher, and well above Max Win Machine, which offers far less to play. Our rating: 4.2 out of 5 (Great).

Play responsibly

Red Rascal's big moments come from features, and that makes it easy to keep spinning, or keep buying, in search of the next one. Decide on a budget and a time limit before you start, count any buy price against that budget rather than your base bet, and stop when you reach either limit. Use the deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion your casino offers. No mode, pendulum position or buy changes the odds in your favour. 18+ only.
