Who regulates online gambling in Germany

Online gambling in Germany is supervised by the Joint Gambling Authority of the German states (GGL, Gemeinsame Glücksspielbehörde der Länder) under the State Treaty on Gambling 2021 (GlüStV 2021). The GGL publishes an official White-List of operators that hold a German permit, with the type of gambling each may offer and its domain.

We list a casino on this page only when its German domain appears on that White-List.

What German rules mean for slots

Online slots are permitted in Germany as "virtual slot games" (virtuelle Automatenspiele), with player-protection rules set out by the GGL:

• under the basic rule, the stake is at most one euro per game;
• at least 5 seconds must pass between games;
• each game must be started individually and manually — no autoplay;
• after 60 minutes of continuous play you must actively confirm to carry on, and you can continue only 5 minutes after confirming; and
• the possible win must be fixed before the game starts.

Minors are excluded from play. Rules can be adjusted, so check the GGL's player-protection pages for the current details.

Deposit limits and the limit file

A deposit limit applies across all licensed operators — in principle at most 1,000 euros a month. A central limit file makes sure the limit you set holds across providers, and an activity file prevents you from playing at several licensed operators at the same time.

OASIS: self-exclusion

OASIS is the nationwide player-exclusion system. A self-exclusion is free and lasts at least 3 months; a third-party exclusion runs for 12 months. Once registered, licensed operators must refuse you.

How to check a licence

Look the operator up on the GGL White-List and confirm that the domain you are using is listed for the type of gambling you want to play. A logo alone is not proof; the White-List is.
