Le Bandit is a Hacksaw Gaming slot released on 24 August 2023, and the game that launched the studio's "Le" series. Its star is Smokey Le Bandit, a raccoon pickpocket with a crowbar, and it plays on a 6x5 grid with cluster pays, an aggressive cascade feature and a Golden Squares mechanic that can turn any winning spin into a coin collection. Theme and design

The setting is a sepia-tinted back alley in a 1940s-style Paris, scored with a jaunty piano tune. Smokey slinks around it like a silent-film villain, and the tone is pure slapstick. The joke gets stranger once the bonuses start: the Parisian thief swaps his usual look for a leprechaun hat, and rainbows, four-leaf clovers and pots of gold take over the grid.

The higher-paying symbols are reported to be a top hat (the best of them), a baguette, a beer, a cheese and a trap, with the royals A to 10 at the low end. The game's official feature list does not describe a wild symbol. The camera-shaped FS symbol is the scatter that triggers the bonus rounds.

How it plays: clusters and Super Cascades

There are no paylines. A win needs five or more matching symbols connected horizontally or vertically; diagonal contact does not count.

Wins are resolved with a feature Hacksaw calls Super Cascades. When a cluster pays, the winning symbols are removed — and so is every other symbol of the same type visible on the grid, even ones that were not part of the win. New symbols drop into the gaps, and the process repeats for as long as new wins keep forming. Because each cascade clears more of the grid than a standard one, a single paid spin can chain several wins together.

Golden Squares and the Rainbow, step by step

Golden Squares are the heart of the game. Here is the order of events:

1. Squares are marked. Every grid position that takes part in a win is marked with a Golden Square. Cascades on the same spin can mark more positions.
2. A Rainbow switches them on. The squares do nothing unless a Rainbow symbol lands on the same spin. When it does, every Golden Square activates at once.
3. Each square reveals something. An activated square turns into a Bronze Coin (0.2x–4x), a Silver Coin (5x–20x), a Gold Coin (up to 500x; third-party sources give its range as 25x–500x), a Four-Leaf Clover or a Pot of Gold.
4. Clovers multiply. Each Clover multiplies the values in the cells next to it, Pots of Gold included, by 2x to 10x. Reported steps are 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x and 10x.
5. Pots of Gold collect. Working from top to bottom and left to right, each Pot adds up the value of every coin on the grid, plus any other Pots, and holds the total.
6. The squares go again. After the last Pot has collected, the Golden Squares activate for one more round. If new Pots appear, the collection repeats.
7. Payout. The collected values are paid. In the base game, the squares are then cleared.

Coins, Clovers and the Pot of Gold

It helps to think of the three special outcomes as layers. Coins are the raw value. Clovers are multipliers that boost whatever sits next to them. Pots of Gold are collectors that sweep everything up into one number. Because a Clover can multiply a Pot, and a Pot can collect other Pots, the largest results come from spins where several Pots and Clovers land together and the squares keep re-activating. Those combinations are rare. Most activations reveal a few coins and pay a modest amount.

The three bonus rounds

All three are triggered by the FS scatter, and the number of FS symbols decides which round you get.

Luck of the Bandit (3 FS)

The entry-level round is reported to award 8 free spins. The key difference from the base game is that Golden Squares stay marked from spin to spin until a Rainbow lands and activates them, so squares can build up across several spins. Two FS symbols during the round add 2 spins and three add 3. Landing four FS symbols upgrades the round to All That Glitters Is Gold, carrying over the remaining spins plus 4 more.

All That Glitters Is Gold (4 FS)

Twelve free spins. Here the Golden Squares stay for the whole round and can be activated again and again, rather than resetting after a Rainbow. The retrigger rules are the same as in Luck of the Bandit.

Treasure at the End of the Rainbow (5 FS)

The top round: 12 free spins, Golden Squares that last the whole round, and a Rainbow guaranteed on every spin, so the squares activate every time. Third-party sources report that Bronze Coins are removed in this round. It cannot be bought; the only way in is to land five FS symbols.
