What Trustly is
Trustly is a payment company, founded in Sweden in 2008, that describes its service as Pay by Bank: payments move directly between your bank account and the merchant's, without a card. It relies on open banking, the regulated way for licensed providers to connect to bank accounts with the customer's permission. According to its own site, Trustly is a licensed payment institution under the EU's second Payment Services Directive (PSD2), supervised by the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority, and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority in the UK. Trustly is not a bank and not a wallet; it sits between your bank and the merchant to process the payment.
How it works for casino deposits and withdrawals
Deposits. In the cashier you choose Trustly, sometimes labelled "Pay by Bank" or "Online Banking". You select your bank, sign in with your usual online banking credentials, pick the account and approve the payment with your bank's own security step, such as an app confirmation. Trustly says no download, registration or Trustly account is needed for its standard products; an optional "remember me" feature exists at some merchants. Trustly also warns users to always start a payment from the merchant's own site, never by reusing old payment details.
Withdrawals. Where the casino supports it, winnings are paid back to the same bank account. Trustly offers merchants a payout product that it says can reach consumer accounts in real time where the banks and payment rails allow. Some casinos also use the bank login to fill in account details and confirm identity, which can shorten registration.
Typical speed
- Deposits: usually credited at once after you approve the payment in your bank.
- Withdrawals: after the casino approves the request, Trustly payouts can arrive within minutes where instant payment systems are available. If they are not, a standard bank transfer applies and it may take one or more business days. The casino's own review time comes first in every case.
Fees
Trustly's help centre says it charges consumers no fees to use its platform, though it notes a fee may apply if a payment it has already passed to the merchant is later returned, for example for insufficient funds. Your bank may still apply its normal charges, such as for currency conversion, and the casino may charge for deposits or withdrawals. Check the cashier terms.
Security, privacy and identity checks
You sign in through your bank's own security, and Trustly states that your bank credentials are not visible to anyone else and that bank data is not shared without your consent. No card details are passed to the casino.
Trustly is not anonymous. Because the payment comes from a named bank account, the casino receives verified account-holder information. Licensed casinos still carry out their own identity checks (KYC) before payouts, which can include photo ID and proof of address. The bank account must be in your own name; casinos generally refuse payments from or to someone else's account.
Pros and cons
Pros
- No card or separate account needed
- Deposits are usually instant
- Withdrawals can be fast where instant bank payments are supported
- No consumer fee from Trustly itself, according to Trustly
Cons
- Only works with banks that Trustly connects to
- Requires signing in to your online bank through a third-party screen
- Payout speed depends on your bank and the casino
- Payments appear on your bank statement
Practical tips
- Check that the Trustly screen is opened from the casino cashier and shows your own bank's login.
- Never share one-time codes with anyone who contacts you; only enter them during a payment you started.
- Keep the casino account in the same currency as your bank account if you can.
- Use the same bank account for deposits and withdrawals to avoid extra verification.
- If a payment fails, contact the casino first, then Trustly's support with the transaction reference.
Gambling is for adults (18+) only. Set a budget before you play and use the deposit limits and time-out tools your casino provides.
