How Bitcoin payments work at a casino
Bitcoin is a digital currency that moves directly between wallets without a bank in the middle. Every confirmed transaction is written to a shared public ledger, the blockchain, which the whole network relies on to check balances and prevent double spending.
To deposit, you open the cashier, choose Bitcoin and copy the deposit address the casino shows you (often also as a QR code). You then send coins to that address from your own wallet. The payment appears as pending until the network has included it in a block and added the number of further confirmations the casino requires.
Withdrawals run the other way. You give the casino the receiving address of your own wallet, the casino reviews the request, and only then does it broadcast the transaction. In practice the casino's own approval step, not the blockchain, is usually what takes the longest.
How fast is it?
The Bitcoin network adds a new block roughly every ten minutes on average, though the gap varies. Bitcoin.org describes typical confirmation as taking somewhere between 10 and 60 minutes. A deposit is therefore rarely instant: how quickly it is credited depends on the fee you attached and on how many confirmations the casino waits for. For withdrawals, add whatever time the casino needs to process and approve the request.
Fees
Every Bitcoin transaction carries a network fee paid to the miners who include it in a block. The fee is not fixed: it rises when the network is busy and falls when it is quiet. Bitcoin.org notes that a low fee can significantly delay the first confirmation. On top of the network fee, the casino, your wallet provider or the exchange you buy from may charge its own fees or apply a conversion spread. Check each party's terms before you send.
Price volatility
The price of bitcoin can move sharply and unpredictably, even within the time it takes a deposit to confirm. Some casinos keep your balance in BTC; others convert it to a currency such as US dollars or euros at deposit and convert back at withdrawal. Find out which model the casino uses and which exchange rate it applies, because it affects what you actually receive.
Privacy and identity checks
Bitcoin is pseudonymous, not anonymous. Addresses are not tied to names on the blockchain itself, but every transaction is public and permanent, so anyone can trace the history of an address. Licensed casinos may still ask for identity documents (KYC) before a withdrawal, and many require that payments come from, and go back to, a wallet you personally control.
Irreversibility
A Bitcoin transaction cannot be reversed. Only the recipient can choose to send a refund. There is no chargeback as with a card payment, so coins sent to a mistyped address, or to an address on a different network, are normally lost for good.
Pros and cons
Pros
- No bank needed between you and the casino
- Withdrawals can be quick once approved
- Works the same way worldwide
Cons
- Network fees vary and can be high when the network is busy
- Confirmations take time; deposits are not instant
- Price swings can change the value of your balance
- Mistakes cannot be undone
Practical tips
- Send a small test amount first, especially to a new address.
- Copy and paste addresses, then check the first and last characters.
- Confirm that the casino expects native Bitcoin on the Bitcoin network, not a wrapped token on another chain.
- Use a wallet you control rather than sending straight from an exchange account, unless the casino allows that.
- Keep records of transaction IDs in case you need to contact support.
Some casinos also accept other coins, such as Solana, XRP, Dogecoin or TON; the same principles apply.
Crypto gambling is regulated differently around the world, so check the rules where you live before you play. Gambling is for adults only (18+). Set a budget and deposit limits before you start, and never gamble with money you cannot afford to lose.
