How Litecoin payments work at a casino
Litecoin (LTC) is a peer-to-peer digital currency. Its developers describe it as running with no central authority: the network as a whole processes transactions and issues new coins. Like other cryptocurrencies, it records every confirmed transaction on a public blockchain.
To deposit, choose Litecoin in the casino cashier, copy the LTC deposit address and send coins to it from your own wallet. Once the transaction has been included in a block and has collected the confirmations the casino asks for, your balance is credited.
For a withdrawal, give the casino the LTC receiving address of your own wallet. The casino checks and approves the request before sending anything, and that approval is normally the slowest step. The network transfer itself is comparatively quick.
How fast is it?
Litecoin's protocol targets a new block every 2.5 minutes on average, set in the project's own source code. That relatively short interval means the first confirmations can arrive within minutes. Actual times still vary from block to block, and each casino sets its own confirmation requirement. Treat any speed claim as approximate and allow for the casino's processing time on withdrawals.
Fees
Each Litecoin transaction pays a network fee to the miners who include it in a block. As with other blockchains, the fee is not fixed and depends on how busy the network is and on the size of the transaction. A fee set too low can delay confirmation. The casino, your wallet or an exchange may charge separately, so read their fee terms before you send.
Price volatility
The value of LTC can rise or fall sharply in a short time. Some casinos keep balances in LTC; others convert deposits to a fiat currency and convert back when you withdraw. Check which method the casino uses and the exchange rate it applies, because both affect the amount you receive.
Privacy and identity checks
Litecoin addresses are pseudonymous. They are not tied to a name on the blockchain, but transactions are public and permanent, so an address's history can be followed. Licensed casinos may still ask for identity documents (KYC) before paying out, and commonly require that funds come from and go back to a wallet you control.
Irreversibility
A confirmed Litecoin transaction cannot be reversed by you, the casino or anyone else. There is no chargeback. Coins sent to a mistyped address, or to an address that belongs to a different network, are normally lost.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Short 2.5-minute block target, so confirmations can arrive quickly
- No bank intermediary
- Widely supported by wallets and exchanges
Cons
- Network fees vary with demand
- Price can be volatile
- Casino approval can still slow withdrawals
- Mistakes cannot be undone
Practical tips
- Send a small test amount before a larger deposit.
- Confirm the cashier expects native Litecoin on the Litecoin network.
- Paste addresses rather than typing them, and check the first and last characters.
- Use a wallet you own, unless the casino explicitly accepts exchange withdrawals.
- Note the transaction ID in case you need to contact support.
