How Ethereum payments work at a casino
Ether (ETH) is the native currency of the Ethereum network. Besides being sent as money, it is what users pay network fees with. Every transaction is recorded on Ethereum's public blockchain.
To deposit, choose Ethereum in the casino cashier and copy the deposit address it gives you. Ethereum addresses start with "0x". Send ETH to that address from your own wallet and wait for the casino to see the transaction as confirmed before it credits your balance.
For a withdrawal, you enter the address of your own Ethereum wallet. The casino reviews and approves the request, then sends the payment. That internal approval step is usually the slowest part of the process, not the network itself.
Choosing the right network
The same "0x" address format is used by Ethereum and by a number of other networks that are compatible with it. A cashier may therefore list several networks for what looks like the same asset. Select the network the casino specifies, and make sure your wallet sends on that same network. A mismatch can leave funds stranded or lost.
How fast is it?
According to ethereum.org, a transfer is typically completes in under 30 seconds, and it reaches full finality, the point after which it cannot be reverted, after about 15 minutes. Each casino decides how many confirmations it waits for before crediting a deposit, so timings differ. For withdrawals, the casino's review time comes first.
Gas fees
On Ethereum, fees are measured in "gas", the unit for the computing work a transaction needs. Ethereum.org explains the fee in two parts:
- Base fee: set by the protocol for each block and adjusted automatically with demand. This part is burned, meaning removed from circulation.
- Priority fee (tip): an optional extra that encourages validators to include your transaction sooner.
The total is the gas used multiplied by the base fee plus the tip, usually quoted in gwei (one billionth of an ETH). When the network is busy, fees rise. A simple ETH transfer uses less gas than an interaction with a smart contract. The casino, your wallet provider or an exchange may add fees of their own, so read their terms.
Price volatility
The value of ETH can change quickly. Some casinos hold your balance in ETH; others convert to a fiat currency on arrival and back again at withdrawal. Check which approach applies and at what rate, because it changes the amount you end up with.
Privacy and identity checks
Ethereum addresses are not linked to names on-chain, but the ledger is public: anyone who knows an address can see its balance and transaction history. Licensed casinos may still require identity verification (KYC), and many insist that deposits come from and withdrawals go to a wallet in your own name.
Irreversibility
Once finalised, an Ethereum transaction cannot be undone. There are no chargebacks. Funds sent to a wrong address, or to the right address on the wrong network, are usually impossible to recover.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Transactions are usually included quickly
- No bank intermediary
- Widely supported by wallets and exchanges
Cons
- Gas fees vary and can spike during busy periods
- Several look-alike networks make errors easier
- ETH prices can be volatile
- No way to reverse a mistake
Practical tips
- Send a small test transaction before a larger one.
- Check the network name in both the cashier and your wallet before you confirm.
- Paste the address and verify the first and last characters.
- Keep a little extra ETH in your wallet to cover gas.
- Save the transaction hash in case support needs it.
